Anarchobot was created in the early 2010s, during a time when Anonymous was undergoing a period of significant growth and activity. The bot's primary function was to collaborate with human members of the collective in carrying out online vigilantism and cyberattacks against law enforcement and corporate targets.

The bot's operations typically dovetailed with real-time communication streams from Anonymous members, enabling the bot to document and sponsor information-gathering efforts in real time. In addition, the bot maintained autonomous log files that allowed it to carry out tasks without human oversight.
