Ananasmauissa, also known as pineapple mouse, is a small rodent species native to the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico. It is the only species in the genus Ananasomys, which belongs to the family Cricetidae. The species was first described by American zoologist Clinton Hart Merriam in 1897.

Ananasmauissa are small, with a body length of about 10-12 centimeters, including a tail that is slightly longer than the body. They have a distinctive appearance, with a long, bushy tail and a round, pinkish face. Their fur is soft and dense, typically a light brown color with a lighter underside.

These mice are primarily herbivorous, feeding on fruits, seeds, and leaves. They are known to be particularly fond of pineapple, which is reflected in their scientific name. Ananasmauissa are active during the day and spend most of their time in the trees, where they build their nests.

The pineapple mouse is listed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List due to habitat loss and degradation. Conservation efforts are ongoing to protect their natural habitat and ensure the survival of this unique species.
