Amárico is a Semitic language spoken in Ethiopia. It is the official working language of the federal government of Ethiopia and is also the most widely spoken language in the country. Amárico is estimated to have around 30 million native speakers and an additional 25 million second-language speakers. It is the third-largest language in Africa by the number of speakers, following Swahili and Hausa.

The Amárico alphabet, known as Ge'ez, is unique and consists of over 300 characters. Each character represents a consonant-vowel combination. The script is written from left to right. Amárico has a rich literary tradition, with works dating back to the 14th century. Modern Amárico literature includes poetry, novels, and plays.

Amárico has a complex grammatical structure with verb conjugations, noun declensions, and a system of prefixes and suffixes. The word order is typically subject-object-verb, though this can vary for emphasis. Loanwords from various languages, including Arabic, Italian, and English, have been incorporated into Amárico over time. The language continues to evolve, reflecting the dynamic cultural and social landscape of Ethiopia.
