alkoxysilanen
Alkoxysilanes are a class of organosilicon compounds in which silicon is bonded to alkoxy groups and, in many cases, one or more organic substituents. The simplest members have the general formula Si(OR)4, where OR is an alkoxy group such as methoxy, ethoxy, or propoxy. Many commercially important alkoxysilanes are partially substituted, for example methyltrimethoxysilane (CH3Si(OCH3)3) or methyltriethoxysilane (CH3Si(OEt)3). Their common feature is a readily hydrolyzable Si–OR bond.
Chemical behavior and reactions
Alkoxysilanes are highly reactive toward water. In the presence of moisture, they undergo hydrolysis to form
Alkoxysilanes are produced industrially for use as precursors to silica-based materials, coatings, and sealants. They are
In sol-gel processes, alkoxysilanes serve as precursors to silica networks that form coatings, ceramics, and optical
