alRaghaib

alRaghaib is the first Friday night of the month of Rajab in the Islamic calendar. It is considered a night of spiritual significance and is observed by many Muslims worldwide. The name "alRaghaib" itself translates to "the desires" or "the wishes," suggesting a time when supplications are believed to be more readily answered.

The observance of alRaghaib involves a special voluntary prayer (salat) performed between the Maghrib and Isha prayers. This prayer consists of twelve rak'ahs, with two rak'ahs recited at a time, followed by a greeting. After each two rak'ahs, a specific supplication is recited. Following the completion of the twelve rak'ahs, a further supplication, known as the "dua of alRaghaib," is recited. Many Muslims also dedicate this night to increased prayer, remembrance of God (dhikr), and seeking forgiveness.

While the practice of alRaghaib prayer is widespread, its religious basis and the exact method of its performance have been subjects of scholarly discussion among Islamic jurists. Some scholars consider it a praiseworthy innovation (bid'ah hasanah) due to its emphasis on worship and spiritual reflection during a blessed month. Others view it as lacking strong authentic prophetic tradition and therefore discourage its specific observance. Regardless of the differing scholarly opinions, many Muslims find spiritual benefit in dedicating this night to increased devotion and seeking proximity to God.
