akkuj

Akkuj is a fictional constructed language used in world-building, comparative linguistics, and speculative fiction. It is designed to illustrate typological variety, combining agglutinative morphology, vowel harmony, and a basic subject–object–verb (SOV) word order.

In its internal history, Akkuj is described as belonging to the imagined Akkuan language family and is said to have originated in the highlands of the continent of Liridia. Within the fictional setting, it spread through trade routes and ceremonial contexts, leaving inscriptions and oral traditions as records.

Phonology and writing: Akkuj has a five-vowel system (a, e, i, o, u) and about eighteen consonants, including p, t, k, m, n, s, l, r, and h. The language favors open syllables of the form CV and shows mild vowel harmony across suffixes. It is written with a 24-letter alphabet; length marks appear on older texts but are often omitted in modern usage.

Grammar: Akkuj is highly agglutinative. Nouns take suffixal markers for number, definiteness, and cases; verbs accumulate affixes encoding tense, aspect, mood, and evidentiality. The default word order is SOV, and postpositions replace prepositions. Noun gender is not marked.

Lexicon and usage: The lexicon emphasizes derivational productivity, enabling compounds and affixation to convey precise meanings. In the fictional culture, Akkuj is used in official records, poetry, ritual speech, and education. It is a popular subject among conlang communities and language hobbyists.
