ajoalusta

Ajoalusta is a regional unit of Finland, located in the province of Satakunta. It is a former province that existed from 1977 to 2009. The name "ajoalusta" translates to "starting point" or "threshold" in Finnish.

Ajoalusta served as a province, one of the six regional governments in Finland, until 2009 when it was merged with the provinces of Vakka-Suomi and Mallasvuono to form the new province of Satakunta. The administrative center of the former province of Ajoalusta was situated in the city of Pori.

The region of Ajoalusta encompasses the former regions of Vakka, Nousiainen, Mallasvuono, and the area surrounding the town of Kokemäki. It covers an area of 2,246 square kilometers and has a population of approximately 84,000 people, with the majority residing in the city of Pori.

During its time as a province, Ajoalusta was governed by a provincial council and a provincial government. These governing bodies oversaw regional development, education, health care, and other public services within the province. The province of Ajoalusta was also responsible for regional urban planning and environmental protection.

In 2009, the Finnish government reformed the country's administrative structure, and the provinces of Ajoalusta and Satakunta were merged into a single province of Satakunta. This merger aimed to improve regional governance and streamline administrative functions in western Finland.
