Longer periods include the month (kuukausi), which varies in length from 28 to 31 days, and the year (vuosi), generally 365 days, with a leap year (karkausvuosi) occurring every four years to accommodate the Earth's orbital period, adding an extra day in February.

Beyond these common units, Finnish also uses terms for even larger spans of time, such as the decade (vuosikymmen), a period of ten years, and the century (vuosisata), spanning one hundred years. Historical and astronomical contexts might employ terms for millennia (tuhatvuosikymmen) and beyond.
