Aerófonos are a class of musical instruments that produce sound primarily through the vibration of air. This vibration is typically initiated by the player blowing air into or across a specific part of the instrument. Aerófonos are one of the oldest and most widespread types of musical instruments known, found in virtually every culture throughout history.

The classification of aerófonos is broadly divided into two main categories: wind instruments. Wind instruments are further subdivided based on how the air column is set into vibration and the mechanism used to produce different pitches. The primary method of sound production involves the player's breath causing a column of air within the instrument to vibrate. This vibration can be achieved in several ways, such as blowing across an edge, causing a reed to vibrate, or buzzing the lips into a mouthpiece.

The pitch produced by an aerófono is determined by the length and effective volume of the vibrating air column. This can be modified by opening and closing holes or valves along the instrument's body, or by changing the tension of a membrane or reed. Common examples of aerófonos include flutes, clarinets, trumpets, and saxophones, each employing distinct methods for initiating and controlling the airflow to create music.
