adynamische

Adynamische is an adjective in German that denotes a lack of dynamism, activity, or energy in a person, object, or system. The term is formed from the prefix a- meaning without and dynamisch meaning dynamic. The related noun is Adynamie, describing a state of marked weakness or reduced physical, cognitive, or metabolic energy.

The feminine/neuter attributive form adynamische is used before qualifying nouns, for example adynamische Zustände or adynamische Lähmung, in older and clinical texts.

In medical language, adynamie refers to profound weakness and apathy extending beyond fatigue; it is used to describe patients whose energy and responsiveness are reduced. Historically, the phrase adynamische Zustände has described severe systemic depression in which there is little physiological responsiveness.
