For example, in the singular, if a noun is in the genitive case, the adjective modifying it will also be in the genitive singular. Similarly, if a noun is plural, the adjective will take the plural form corresponding to the noun's case. Finnish has 15 cases, and adjectives must be inflected accordingly for each case, whether the noun is singular or plural. This extensive inflection system ensures clarity and precision in describing relationships between words in a sentence.

The partitive case is particularly important for adjectives, especially when they modify a noun in the partitive case, or when describing an indefinite quantity. The partitive form often ends in -a or -ä. Understanding these adjective forms is crucial for correct Finnish grammar.
