Adjektiiva is a class of words that describes or modifies nouns and pronouns. Adjectives provide more information about the qualities, characteristics, or states of being of the nouns or pronouns they accompany. They answer questions such as "what kind?", "which one?", or "how many?". For example, in the sentence "The big red ball bounced," the adjectives "big" and "red" describe the noun "ball." "Big" tells us what kind of ball it is, and "red" tells us its color.

Adjectives can appear in various positions within a sentence. They often precede the noun they modify, as in "a happy child." They can also follow a linking verb, such as "is," "seems," or "becomes," to describe the subject of the sentence. This is known as a predicate adjective. For instance, in "The sky is blue," "blue" is a predicate adjective describing "sky."

Adjectives can also be compared to show different degrees of a quality. This is called comparison of adjectives. The three forms are the positive, comparative, and superlative. The positive form is the basic adjective, like "tall." The comparative form, used to compare two things, often adds "-er" or uses "more," such as "taller" or "more beautiful." The superlative form, used to compare three or more things, often adds "-est" or uses "most," such as "tallest" or "most beautiful." Irregular adjectives have unique comparative and superlative forms, such as "good," "better," and "best." Adjectives are a fundamental part of language, enriching descriptions and adding detail to communication.
