adenoidit
Adenoiditis is an inflammation of the adenoids, which are a collection of lymphoid tissue located at the back of the nasopharynx. The adenoids play a crucial role in the body's immune response by filtering out pathogens and foreign particles from the air we breathe. Adenoiditis can be caused by viral infections, such as the common cold or flu, or bacterial infections, including Streptococcus pneumoniae. Symptoms of adenoiditis typically include nasal congestion, difficulty breathing through the nose, and sometimes, a sore throat. In children, adenoiditis may also cause snoring, sleep apnea, and enlarged tonsils. Diagnosis is usually based on a physical examination and symptoms. Treatment options vary depending on the severity and cause of the infection. Mild cases may resolve on their own with rest and fluids, while more severe cases may require antibiotics or surgical removal of the adenoids. Adenoiditis is more common in children and can lead to complications such as chronic ear infections or obstructive sleep apnea if left untreated.
