The additivmodell, or additive model, is a statistical modeling technique used to describe the relationship between a response variable and one or more predictor variables. In an additive model, the effect of each predictor variable on the response variable is assumed to be independent of the other predictor variables. This means that the total effect on the response is the sum of the individual effects of each predictor.

Mathematically, a simple additive model can be represented as y = β₀ + β₁x₁ + β₂x₂ + ... + βnxn + ε, where y is the response variable, x₁, x₂, ..., xn are the predictor variables, β₀ is the intercept, β₁, β₂, ..., βn are the coefficients representing the effect of each predictor, and ε is the error term. Each β coefficient quantifies the change in the response variable for a one-unit increase in the corresponding predictor variable, holding all other predictors constant.

A key advantage of additive models is their interpretability. The independent contribution of each predictor is clear, making it easy to understand how changes in individual variables influence the outcome. This contrasts with interaction models where the effect of one predictor depends on the level of another. Additive models are widely used in various fields, including economics, biology, and social sciences, for tasks such as regression analysis and forecasting when interactions are not considered significant or are being deliberately excluded for simplicity.
