Acorazado is a Spanish word that translates to "battleship" in English. Historically, it refers to a type of large, heavily armed and armored warship designed for naval combat. These vessels were a prominent feature of naval arsenals from the late 19th century through the mid-20th century. The primary role of an acorazado was to engage and destroy enemy capital ships, such as other battleships, and to provide shore bombardment support.

The development of the acorazado marked a significant shift in naval warfare technology. Early designs evolved from wooden-hulled ships protected by iron plating to all-steel construction. Key features included large caliber guns mounted in turrets, thick armor plating to protect against enemy fire, and powerful engines for propulsion.
