aastaringse

Aastaringse is a term that appears in Estonian-language writings in reference to the concept of annual rings in trees. The more common word for this concept is aastaring; in plural form, aastaringud, and in adjectival forms such as aastaringne. In some archival texts and dialectal usage, or when used as part of compound nouns, the form aastaringse may be encountered, but it is not the standard headword in modern forestry or dendrochronology.

Annual rings are the concentric increments that trees form as they grow each growing season. Each ring is typically composed of lighter earlywood produced at the start of the season and darker latewood formed later in the year. The spacing and density of these rings reflect environmental conditions, such as temperature, precipitation, and resource availability, during successive years.
