Zündfähig
Zündfähig is a term used in German-speaking safety and engineering contexts to describe a material, mixture, or atmosphere that can be ignited under prescribed conditions. Specifically, a substance is zündfähig if an external ignition source—such as a flame, electric spark, hot surface, or friction—can initiate combustion or an explosion when tested under defined laboratory or industrial conditions. The determination of zündfähigkeit depends on multiple factors, including chemical composition, particle size, moisture content, temperature, pressure, and the presence of oxidizers, as well as the energy and type of ignition source applied.
Testing and classification: Standardized tests in safety science assess zündfähigkeit by exposing samples to specified ignition
Relation to related concepts: Zündfähigkeit differs from but relates to autoignition temperature, which refers to ignition
