Zolochiv

Zolochiv is a city located in the Lviv Oblast of western Ukraine. It is the administrative center of the Zolochiv Raion and lies approximately 60 kilometers east of Lviv. The city is situated on the Zolochivka River.

Historically, Zolochiv was part of the Kingdom of Poland and later the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. It received Magdeburg rights in the 15th century, signifying its status as a town. The city has been a center of trade and crafts for centuries. During the partitions of Poland, it came under Austrian rule as part of the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria. Following World War I, it became part of the Second Polish Republic. In 1939, after the Soviet invasion of Poland, Zolochiv was incorporated into the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic.

A prominent landmark in Zolochiv is the Zolochiv Castle, a Renaissance fortress constructed in the 17th century. The castle complex includes a palace and several defensive structures. The city also has a historical town center with architectural remnants from its past.

The economy of Zolochiv is primarily based on agriculture and light industry. The surrounding region is known for its fertile black soil.
