Zahlungsverzug, often translated as payment delay or default, refers to the situation where a debtor fails to fulfill their payment obligation by the agreed-upon due date. This can occur in various contexts, including commercial transactions, loan repayments, and rental agreements.

The legal consequences of Zahlungsverzug are typically outlined in contract law and can vary depending on jurisdiction and the specific terms of the agreement. Generally, upon entering into Zahlungsverzug, the creditor gains certain rights. These may include the right to charge interest on the outstanding amount, often at a statutory rate or a rate specified in the contract.
