Zachytávalo

Zachytávalo is a large television in the historic building of the former television station Josefov in Prague, Czech Republic. It is currently an interactive installation located in the center of the building's main hall.

The Zachytávalo installation is the result of a restoration project that transformed the neglected television studio into a functional installation. It was completed in 2010 by the architectural and design firm Atelier 80. The installation consists of a screen that is 26 meters long and five meters wide and a floor covering 400 square meters.

The overall aim of the installation was to explore the social, cultural, and historical aspects of television and its role in society. The name Zachytávalo, which translates to "it was transmitting" in Czech, is a reference to the building's historical function as a television broadcast center.

Viewers can enter the hall freely during opening hours and interact with the screen by sending text messages or sharing images through messaging apps. These messages and images are then displayed in a loop on the screen, creating an ever-changing and evolving statement. The installation uses a processor to respond to the input from the visitors, effectively creating a dynamic public space.

The building itself is protected as a historic cultural monument. The character of the building's original construction has been preserved, as has the incorporation of additional renovation elements from the original stable vaults to create the large-scale installation.
