Yöpyjäksi

Yöpyjäksi is a Finnish term that translates to "one who stays overnight" or "overnight guest." It is commonly used in the context of social visits, particularly in Finnish culture where hospitality is valued. When someone is invited to stay overnight at a friend's or relative's home, they are referred to as a yöpyjäksi. This implies a level of trust and closeness between the host and the guest, as overnight stays are not typically offered to casual acquaintances.

The term can also extend to situations where a person is temporarily housed by someone else, even if not strictly for social reasons, such as a student staying with a family during their studies or someone finding temporary lodging. The reciprocal relationship is that of a host, or isäntä/emäntä, who provides the accommodation for the yöpyjäksi.
