Ympäristölle

Ympäristölle is the allative form of the Finnish noun ympäristö, meaning environment or surroundings. The allative case, marked by the suffix -lle, expresses direction toward something, or a recipient or beneficiary of an action. In Finnish, ympäristölle can be translated as “to the environment” or “for the environment,” depending on context.

The form is commonly used in policy, program descriptions, and funding language where the environment is the target or beneficiary. For example, Ohjelma on suunnattu ympäristölle (The program is aimed at the environment) and Tuki ympäristölle on myönnetty (Support has been granted for the environment). It also appears in phrases that indicate allocation of resources or attention toward environmental aims, or in communications that designate the environment as the recipient of an action.

In everyday Finnish, other cases or constructions may be used to express related ideas. The illative case form ympäristöön is used for “into the environment” or movement toward the environment, while erilaiset sävyt and contexts may prefer different phrasing. The allative ympäristölle thus tends to be more common in formal, administrative, or policy discourse when specifying the recipient or objective of an action.
