Yläturboilman

Yläturboilman is a Finnish term that translates to "upper turbo air" or "overhead turbo air". It is a technical term used in the context of internal combustion engines, specifically those equipped with turbochargers. The term refers to the air that has been compressed by the turbocharger and is subsequently flowing into the engine's intake manifold and cylinders. This compressed air is denser than ambient air, meaning it contains more oxygen molecules within a given volume.

When a turbocharger spins, it forces more air into the engine than it would naturally draw in. This "yläturboilman" is then mixed with fuel and combusted, leading to increased power output and efficiency compared to a naturally aspirated engine. The temperature of this yläturboilman can also be a significant factor. As air is compressed, its temperature rises. In many turbocharged systems, an intercooler is used to cool the yläturboilman before it enters the engine. Cooling this air further increases its density, allowing even more oxygen to be packed into the cylinders and thus improving performance and reducing the risk of engine knock.
