Yksatomisten

Yksatomisten is a Finnish term that translates to "the single atomists" or "the atomists." It refers to a group of Finnish philosophers and scientists who emerged in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, advocating for a return to the principles of classical atomism. This philosophical movement was a reaction against the idealism and romanticism that dominated Finnish intellectual life at the time.

The term "yksatomisten" was coined by the philosopher and historian Juho Ailio, who was a prominent figure in this movement. The group sought to revive the ideas of ancient Greek atomists, such as Democritus and Epicurus, who posited that matter is composed of indivisible particles called atoms.

The yksatomisten emphasized the importance of empirical observation and scientific inquiry in understanding the natural world. They believed that by studying the fundamental building blocks of matter, one could gain insight into the underlying principles of reality.
