Yhdyslause

Yhdyslause, also known as a compound sentence in English, is a sentence that consists of two or more independent clauses. These clauses are typically connected by coordinating conjunctions such as "ja" (and), "tai" (or), "mutta" (but), "vaan" (but only), "koska" (because), "että" (that), or "ettäkin" (even though). Each independent clause in a yhdyslause can stand alone as a complete sentence and expresses a complete thought.

For example, the sentence "Menen kauppaan, koska on sataa" (I am going to the store because it is raining) is a yhdyslause. The first clause, "Menen kauppaan" (I am going to the store), and the second clause, "koska on sataa" (because it is raining), are both independent clauses that can stand alone as complete sentences.

Yhdyslause is commonly used in Finnish to combine related ideas or to express a cause-and-effect relationship between two thoughts. It is an essential tool for constructing complex sentences and conveying nuanced meanings in the Finnish language.
