Yhdyskuntiin

Yhdyskuntiin is a Finnish illative plural form of the noun yhdyskunta. The illative case expresses direction “into” or “toward,” so yhdyskuntiin translates roughly as into communities or to settlements, depending on the context. The base term yhdyskunta has several related senses.

In sociology and demography, yhdyskunta denotes a social unit or community; in biology it can refer to a colony or a social group of organisms; in geography and urban planning the term describes a settlement or urban area as part of a broader system of settlements. The plural form yhdyskuntiin is used when speaking about multiple communities or when describing movement toward such settlements, for example in planning or demographic discussions: väestö muuttui yhdyskuntiin (the population moved into the communities).

Because it is a grammatical form rather than a standalone concept, yhdyskuntiin commonly appears in sentences where the illative targets a set of communities or settlements.
