Yeryüzünde

Yeryüzünde is a Turkish adverb meaning “on the earth” or “in the world.” It denotes a location on the surface of the planet or, more figuratively, within human life on the world. The phrase is frequently used in everyday and literary Turkish and is typically written as one word.

It is composed of yer (earth/ground) + yüz (surface) with the locative suffix -de; yeryüzü is the noun “the surface of the earth” or “the world,” and yeryüzünde is the locative form. Historically, Turkish sometimes wrote yer yüzünde as two words, but modern standard orthography uses yeryüzünde.

In religious, philosophical, or environmental contexts, yeryüzünde highlights earthly reality, nature, or human existence; in contrast to gök or gökyüzü. A common example is “Yeryüzünde barış için çalışmalıyız” (“We must work for peace on Earth”).

The term is used across literature and media to evoke the tangible world and human life—contrasting with divine or celestial realms, and aligning with discussions of ecology, geography, or anthropology.
