Xenosea is a fictional oceanic biome used in speculative fiction and worldbuilding to describe alien or distant planetary oceans. The term blends xen- meaning foreign with sea, signaling its status as an extraterrestrial or nonterrestrial marine environment.

In common depictions, Xenosea oceans may exist on ocean worlds orbiting gas giants or on ice moons with subsurface oceans exposed by plumes. Environments may feature extreme chemistries, such as methane-ethane seas on colder bodies or sulfur-rich, hydrothermal-influenced seas on volcanically active worlds. Tidal forces from eccentric orbits can generate strong currents and deep-sea mixing, creating dynamic habitats and nutrient flows.

Life in Xenosea is typically imagined as extremophile ecosystems organized around chemical energy rather than photosynthesis. Microbial mats around vents or sulfide-rich basins form the base of food webs; larger organisms may include buoyant, jelly-like plankton, kite-like filter feeders, and reef-like calcareous or silica-based structures. Some depictions speculate novel biochemistries such as silicon-based or copper-based metabolism, though these remain theoretical within in-world science.
