Workingday

A working day is a day on which normal business operations are conducted. In many countries, this means Monday through Friday, excluding weekends and public holidays. However, definitions vary by region and sector.

Some countries observe Saturday as a working day and Sunday as the weekly rest day; others have a six-day workweek in certain industries.

Working hours per day also vary. A common pattern is eight hours per day, totaling 40 hours per week, but many jurisdictions permit longer hours or impose limits on overtime.

Public holidays and bank holidays reduce the number of working days in a given period and can affect deadlines, billing, and logistics. When counting "working days" in contracts or software, weekends and holidays are typically excluded and calendars are country-specific.

The concept is used in scheduling, finance, and project management. Labor laws regulate maximum hours, rest periods, and paid leave, shaping what counts as a working day in practice. Trends such as flexible hours, remote work, and compressed workweeks influence how working days are defined in different contexts.
