Województwie
Województwie is the Polish term for a voivodeship, which is a primary administrative division of Poland. Poland is currently divided into sixteen voivodeships. These units are the highest level of territorial self-government and administrative division in the country. Each voivodeship has its own elected regional assembly, known as the sejmik, and an executive body headed by a voivode, who is appointed by the central government. The voivodeship level of administration was established in its current form in 1999 as part of a broader administrative reform, replacing the older system of provinces. The voivodeships vary significantly in size and population. Their boundaries are often based on historical regions. The responsibilities of the voivodeships include areas such as regional development, infrastructure, education, culture, and healthcare. They play a crucial role in the decentralization of government functions and in promoting regional identity and economic growth within Poland.
