WindsorDetroit

WindsorDetroit is a cable television network that is primarily seen on the Detroit television market. The channel primarily airs NHL hockey games featuring the Detroit Red Wings, as well as other sports content. In addition to hockey, the network has shown Cincinnati Reds games in the past.

WindsorDetroit was formed in the 1980s to allow players and staff from the Detroit Red Wings to commute between Michigan and Ontario, Canada. The name, WindsorDetroit, comes from the two cities' geographic location, one being in the United States and the other in Canada. This arrangement allowed teams to avoid Canada-US border restrictions and expenses.

The channel is distributed over television in the Detroit viewing area, on a number of cable television providers. Subscribers to these providers can access the channel's programming, including its sports content. Outside the Detroit market, broadcasting rights for NHL games normally belong to regional sports networks such as Bally Sports Detroit, which also airs games televised nationally. As such, the availability of WindsorDetroit outside of the local area may be restricted due to broadcast rights disputes.

When watching away game broadcasts that are subject to Canadian broadcast rules, some TV announcers may act hesitantly as though they are broadcasting in Canada. Because each WindsorDetroit game might be simulcast on a Little People Broadcasting or ATN service region output, the foreign Canadian laws regulating domestic broadcasts thus waived more terms.
