Wicklow

Wicklow, or County Wicklow, is a coastal county in the province of Leinster, Ireland. It lies on the east coast along the Irish Sea and is bordered by Dublin to the north, Kildare and Carlow to the west, and Wexford to the south.

The landscape is a mix of rolling farmland, forest, and upland scenery. The interior is dominated by the Wicklow Mountains, which include part of the Wicklow Mountains National Park and peaks such as Lugnaquilla. The eastern edge features a string of towns along the coast, including Bray and Greystones, with Wicklow Town and Arklow inland.

Prominent attractions include Glendalough, a 6th-century monastic valley; Powerscourt Estate and Gardens near Enniskerry; the Powerscourt Waterfall; and scenic drives such as the Wicklow Gap.

Economy and population: The county's economy combines tourism, agriculture, and services. As of the latest census, Wicklow has a population of roughly 150,000 people.

History and culture: The Irish name for Wicklow is Cill Mhantáin. The area has ancient settlements and heritage sites, reflecting a long history of monastic life, farming, and rural industry.

Transport: Wicklow is connected to Dublin and the southeast by the M11 motorway and the N11 corridor. Rail services along the coast operated by Iarnród Éireann connect Bray and Greystones to Dublin, while other towns are served by regional lines.
