Wellston

Wellston is a small unincorporated community located in the U.S. state of Missouri, within the boundaries of St. Louis County. Situated along the Mississippi River, it lies approximately 15 miles southeast of downtown St. Louis, near the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers. The area is part of the larger St. Louis metropolitan region.

Historically, Wellston was established as a farming and industrial community in the late 19th century. The name is believed to derive from the combination of "well" and "stone," possibly referencing the area’s natural resources or early settlers. The community was originally part of the Town of Wellston, which was incorporated in 1887 but later dissolved in 1901. Today, Wellston remains unincorporated, though it retains some distinct local character.

The area is known for its scenic views of the Mississippi River and its proximity to natural attractions, including the Gateway Arch National Park and the Mississippi River Greenway. Wellston also serves as a residential and recreational hub, with access to parks, trails, and waterfront activities. The community is served by the St. Louis County Police Department and other regional services.
