Wbrzeno

Wbrzeno is a small village located in west-central Poland. Administratively it falls within the Gmina Rakoniewice, in Grodzisk Wielkopolski County, part of the Greater Poland Voivodeship. The settlement lies approximately 4 kilometres north of the town of Rakoniewice, 14 kilometres south-west of Grodzisk Wielkopolski, and about 51 kilometres south-west of Poznań, the regional capital. The surrounding landscape is characterised by gently rolling farmland and mixed woodland, with several small streams feeding into the nearby Warta River watershed.

Historical records first mention Wbrzeno in the late 13th century, when it was part of the Duchy of Greater Poland. The village grew around a modest parish church that was established in 1325, which over the centuries served as a focal point for community life. In the 16th century, the church was rebuilt in the Gothic style and later modified with Baroque elements in the early 18th century. A manor house constructed in the 17th century, now in ruins, once belonged to a local noble family. During the partitions of Poland, Wbrzeno was incorporated into the Prussian province of South Prussia; after World War I it returned to the Second Polish Republic. The village suffered damage during both World Wars, with a notable monument erected in 1927 to commemorate local soldiers.

According to the 2002 national census, Wbrzeno had a population of 148 inhabitants. Most residents are engaged in agriculture, cultivating cereals, potatoes, and raising cattle. The village maintains a primary school that serves the local community, and a volunteer fire brigade active in emergency services. The annual St. Nicholas fair, held each December, attracts visitors from neighboring towns and showcases traditional crafts and regional cuisine.
