Watertocementitious refers to the ratio of water to cementitious materials in a concrete mix. This ratio is a critical factor influencing the properties of the hardened concrete. A lower watercementitious ratio generally leads to higher strength, increased durability, and reduced permeability. This is because a lower ratio means less excess water is present in the mix, resulting in a denser hardened structure with fewer voids. Conversely, a higher watercementitious ratio increases workability and ease of placement but can compromise strength and durability. The cementitious materials can include portland cement, fly ash, slag, and silica fume. The watercementitious ratio is typically expressed as a decimal or percentage.
