Värvispektris

Värvispektris refers to the range of visible light colors. When white light passes through a prism, it separates into its constituent colors, forming a spectrum. This spectrum typically includes red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet, often remembered by the acronym ROYGBIV. Each color corresponds to a different wavelength of light. Red has the longest wavelength and violet has the shortest.

The perception of color is a complex phenomenon involving light, the object reflecting or emitting it, and the observer's eye and brain. Objects appear to be a certain color because they absorb some wavelengths of light and reflect others. For example, a red apple absorbs most wavelengths of light but reflects red wavelengths, which then reach our eyes.

The visible spectrum is a small portion of the broader electromagnetic spectrum, which also includes radio waves, microwaves, infrared radiation, ultraviolet radiation, X-rays, and gamma rays. These different forms of electromagnetic radiation differ in their wavelengths and frequencies.

In art and design, understanding the color spectrum is fundamental for color mixing, color theory, and creating harmonious or contrasting color palettes. Different cultures may have varying ways of categorizing or naming colors within the spectrum, but the physical phenomenon of light dispersion remains consistent. The study of color and its properties is known as chromatics.
