Vordernberg

Vordernberg is a market town in the district of Leoben in Styria, Austria. It is situated at the northern end of the Vordernberg Valley, at the foot of the Hochschwab massif. The town's history is closely linked to iron ore mining and smelting, which began in the area as early as the 13th century. The name "Vordernberg" itself is derived from "vorderer Berg," meaning "front mountain," referring to its location.

The Vordernberg Valley has been a significant industrial region for centuries. The abundant iron ore deposits made it a center for iron production. The Rotschild family played a crucial role in developing the industry in the 19th century, establishing the Vordernberg ironworks.
