Vonage

Vonage is a global communications company known for its voice over internet protocol (VoIP) services and, more recently, its cloud-based communications platform for business customers and developers. The company began in 2001 as a consumer VoIP provider and expanded into business communications, API-based services, and CPaaS (communications platform as a service). In 2016, Vonage acquired Nexmo, a cloud communications API provider, and rebranded its API platform as Vonage Communications APIs, later adding messaging, voice, video, and authentication capabilities.

Vonage’s product portfolio centers on two main offerings. Vonage Business Communications provides a communications solution for small and medium-sized businesses that combines voice, video, messaging, and collaboration tools. The Vonage Communications Platform offers a suite of APIs that enable developers to embed communications features—such as voice, messaging, and video—directly into applications. The company also operates Vonage Contact Center and provides SIP trunking and other enterprise-grade communications services.

Geographically, Vonage operates worldwide and maintains its headquarters in Holmdel, New Jersey. It was publicly traded on the NASDAQ under the ticker VON before being acquired by Ericsson. In 2022, Ericsson completed its acquisition of Vonage for approximately $6.2 billion, integrating Vonage as a subsidiary into its portfolio of enterprise communications solutions. The acquisition positioned Vonage within a broader suite of networked communications offerings, emphasizing CPaaS and cloud-based telephony for businesses.
