Volyymisensitiivisyysanalyysiä, known in English as Volume Sensitivity Analysis, is a trading technique used in financial markets to assess how much the price of an asset is likely to move in response to changes in trading volume. The core idea is that significant price movements are often accompanied by a commensurate increase in trading volume, and conversely, low volume can indicate a lack of conviction behind a price trend.

This analysis involves observing the relationship between price action and the volume traded during specific periods. Traders look for patterns where a substantial increase in volume coincides with a significant price change, suggesting strong market participation and conviction behind the move. For example, a sharp price rise on exceptionally high volume might be interpreted as a bullish signal, indicating strong buying interest. Conversely, a steep price decline on heavy volume could signal strong selling pressure.

The absence of significant volume during price fluctuations is also considered important. If a price is moving up or down with very little volume, it might suggest that the move is not well-supported by market participants and could be prone to reversal. Volume sensitivity analysis is often used in conjunction with other technical indicators, such as moving averages or support and resistance levels, to confirm trading signals and improve the probability of successful trades. It helps traders differentiate between genuine market trends and temporary price fluctuations.
