Voldgiftsskjøte

Voldgiftsskjøte is a legal term in Norwegian property law. It refers to a type of deed used to transfer ownership of real estate following a dispute that has been resolved through arbitration. Arbitration, or voldgift in Norwegian, is a private dispute resolution process where parties agree to have their case heard and decided by one or more arbitrators, rather than going to court.

When a property dispute is settled through arbitration, the arbitrators will typically issue a ruling or award. If this award dictates the transfer of property, a voldgiftsskjøte serves as the official document that formalizes this transfer. It is prepared and signed by the arbitrators, and then registered with the relevant authorities to update the property ownership records. This deed has the same legal effect as a deed executed directly between parties, such as a traditional kjøpekontrakt (purchase contract).
