VoIPNummer is a term used to refer to a telephone number assigned to a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service. Such numbers function as the identity for inbound and outbound calls and are typically Direct Inward Dialing (DID) numbers within a national numbering plan, such as E.164. A VoIPNummer can be used to reach VoIP endpoints, traditional PSTN users, or both.

In practice, a VoIP number is provisioned by a VoIP or cloud communications provider. Calls are transmitted as data packets over the Internet or a managed IP network, with gateways connecting to the public switched telephone network (PSTN) or mobile networks. Numbers can be local, toll-free, or virtual, and they may be geographic or non-geographic depending on the issuing country.

Many providers offer number porting, allowing customers to transfer an existing number from another carrier to a VoIP service. Porting timelines vary by country and regulatory rules.
