Vnukovo

Vnukovo is a district and airport located in the southwestern part of Moscow, Russia. The district itself is primarily residential and is home to a population of approximately 30,000 people. It is situated about 28 kilometers from the city center.

The most notable feature of Vnukovo is its international airport, Vnukovo International Airport (VKO). Established in 1941, it is one of the four major airports serving Moscow. Vnukovo Airport handles a significant volume of domestic and international flights, serving as a hub for several Russian airlines. It is particularly known for its use by government and VIP flights, including those for the Russian President and other high-ranking officials. The airport has undergone several expansions and modernizations over the years to accommodate increasing passenger traffic and enhance its facilities.

The area surrounding the airport is largely developed with infrastructure to support its operations. While Vnukovo district itself is more suburban in character, its proximity to the airport and its position within the broader Moscow metropolitan area make it a strategically important location. Public transportation connects Vnukovo to other parts of Moscow, including a direct Aeroexpress train service to the city center.
