Virussoverføring refers to the process by which a virus spreads from one host to another. This can occur through various routes, depending on the specific virus and its characteristics. A common method is direct contact, where the virus is transmitted through touching an infected person or contaminated surfaces. Respiratory droplets expelled when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks are another significant transmission pathway for many viruses, allowing them to travel through the air and be inhaled by others.

Fecal-oral transmission is prevalent for viruses affecting the gastrointestinal tract, where the virus is shed in feces and ingested by another person, often due to poor hygiene. Vector-borne transmission involves an intermediary organism, such as an insect or tick, that carries the virus from an infected host to a susceptible one. This is common for viruses like West Nile virus or Zika virus. Bloodborne transmission occurs when infected blood comes into contact with the bloodstream of another individual, often through sharing needles or unsafe medical practices. Sexual transmission is also a route for certain viruses. Understanding these modes of transmission is crucial for developing effective prevention strategies and controlling the spread of infectious diseases.
