Virusnukleinsäure refers to the genetic material found within a virus. Unlike cellular organisms that exclusively use DNA as their genetic blueprint, viruses can utilize either DNA or RNA. This nucleic acid molecule carries the instructions for viral replication and the production of new viral particles. The structure of viral nucleic acid can vary significantly. It can be single-stranded or double-stranded, linear or circular, and can exist as DNA or RNA.
