Virheterminä

Virheterminä is a Finnish term that translates to "error term" in English. It is commonly used in statistical modeling and econometrics to represent the part of a dependent variable that cannot be explained by the independent variables included in the model. This unobserved component can arise from various sources, including measurement errors, omitted variables, random fluctuations, and inherent stochasticity in the underlying process.

The error term is a crucial element in regression analysis. In a linear regression model, for example, the equation is typically written as Y = β₀ + β₁X₁ + ... + βnXn + ε, where Y is the dependent variable, X₁, ..., Xn are the independent variables, β₀, ..., βn are the regression coefficients, and ε is the error term.
