Villunni

Villunni is a small municipality in the fictional country of Valoria, situated in the Serino River valley in the southern part of the Valdorense region. It covers about 12.4 square kilometers and has a population of around 1,800 as of 2021. The local economy centers on agriculture—notably vineyards and olive groves—along with small-scale crafts and services that serve residents and visitors.

Geography and climate: The topography is gently rolling; the climate is temperate with dry summers and moderate rainfall, conditions favorable for viticulture and olive production. The village sits at a modest elevation and is surrounded by agricultural land and scattered woodland.

History and governance: The first written record of Villunni dates to 1130. A hilltop fortress, Castello di Villunni, was built in the 14th century and remains a landmark. The town grew around the castle and a parish church, expanding through the late medieval and early modern periods. In the 19th century, Villunni became part of the newly formed Valoria and adopted a municipal government. The local council is elected for five-year terms, and the mayor heads the executive branch; as of 2023, the mayor is Lucia Bianchi.

Culture and landmarks: Notable sites include Castello di Villunni, the Church of Santa Maria Assunta (15th–16th century), and the Piazza del Duca. The village hosts an annual harvest festival in autumn, with markets, processions, and regional cuisine featuring wine, bread, olives, and cheese.

Transportation: Villunni is connected by regional roads to nearby towns; the closest rail link is in the neighboring municipality of Lortaro, with regular buses serving the town. The municipality participates in cultural exchanges with neighboring communities and maintains a town partnership with Montosa in a neighboring region.
