Vetoliikkeet, or vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft, are a class of aircraft capable of taking off and landing vertically, without the need for a runway. Fixed-wing VTOL aircraft, on the other hand, use a combination of wings and thrust vectoring to achieve vertical takeoff and landing. Some VTOL aircraft, such as the V-22 Osprey, combine both rotary-wing and fixed-wing technologies to achieve superior performance.

The use of VTOL aircraft has numerous applications, including military operations, search and rescue, and cargo transportation. In the military context, VTOL aircraft provide a significant advantage in terms of mobility and flexibility, allowing for rapid deployment and response to changing situations. In civilian applications, VTOL aircraft can be used for tasks such as firefighting, medical evacuation, and emergency response.

Despite their many advantages, VTOL aircraft also face challenges, including higher operating costs, noise pollution, and safety concerns. However, ongoing research and development efforts are focused on addressing these issues and improving the overall performance and efficiency of VTOL aircraft. As a result, VTOL aircraft are likely to play an increasingly important role in the future of aviation.
