Vertailuäänipaine, or reference sound pressure, is a fundamental concept in acoustics used to quantify sound levels. It is a standard value against which actual measured sound pressure is compared to determine the sound pressure level. The universally accepted reference sound pressure for air is 20 micropascals (µPa), which is equivalent to 2 x 10^-5 Pascals. This reference value was chosen because it is approximately the threshold of human hearing at most audible frequencies.
