Verktygsändar

Verktygsändar, a Swedish term, translates to "tool ends" or "tool tips" in English. In the context of manufacturing and engineering, it specifically refers to the working part of a cutting tool. This is the section of the tool that engages with the workpiece to perform an operation such as cutting, drilling, milling, or turning. The design and geometry of the verktygsändar are critical to the efficiency, precision, and surface finish of the resulting machined part.

Different types of cutting operations require distinct verktygsändar. For instance, a drill bit has a conical verktygsändar with cutting edges designed to penetrate and remove material. A milling cutter will have a verktygsändar with multiple cutting teeth, each shaped to chip away at the workpiece. The material of the verktygsändar is also paramount. Commonly used materials include high-speed steel (HSS), tungsten carbide, ceramic, and diamond, chosen based on the hardness of the workpiece material and the desired cutting speed and tool life. The angle and shape of the cutting edges, known as the rake and clearance angles, are precisely engineered to optimize chip formation and reduce friction.
