Vergibe

Vergibe is a fictional coastal town in the northern archipelago of Ardentia. It lies on a sheltered bay on the island of Neral, about 120 kilometers northeast of the regional capital. The town functions as a local market town and service hub for nearby fishing villages.

The name Vergibe is believed to derive from the old Vergan language, reflecting its historic role as a gathering place.

First settled in the early medieval period, Vergibe grew around a harbor used by traders. It was part of the feudal county of Neral and joined the Ardentian federation in the 19th century.

The town covers a low-lying coast with rolling hills inland. It has a temperate maritime climate, with mild winters, moderate summers, and frequent sea winds.

Fisheries remain central, with a small fish processing plant and a weekly market. Tourism supports guesthouses, local crafts, and guided nature walks.

Vergibe preserves a coastal culture with a local festival of the Tide and Harvest. Architecture combines timber frames and stucco, and the local language, Vergibian, coexists with Ardentian.

Vergibe is governed by a mayor and a municipal council. Public services include a school, a clinic, a small port authority, and regional road maintenance.

The population is around 8,000 residents, with a majority of families and a growing number of seasonal workers. The community speaks Vergibian and Ardentian.

Notable fictional residents include writer Lina Soretti and boatbuilder Jorun Kaine, both associated with Vergibe's cultural revival.
